Who are we?We are 278Z, one of the many robotics teams of West Salem High School's VEX Robotics Program.
|
About usWe are a first year team, put together by our teacher, Mr. Smith, to figure out and create the best bot that can effectively compete in this year's VEX game, In the Zone. We will accomplish this by exercising our skills and the engineering process to learn from our actions, and utilize this to create a well performing robot.
|
Our GoalOur goal is to create a quality product, a robot which will compete in VEX Tournaments and win at least one. Once we accomplish that, we will participate in the State Championship, and exercise our skills to qualify for the VEX World Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.

Our Team
Cody Thatcher-
History in Robotics: Participated in a Lego Robotics class (VEX IQ) which taught me the basics of building and programming. I participated in a few tournaments with one of the teams in VEX IQ which taught me that people need to work together as a team to get anywhere in the competition.
Role: Engineer/Driver
Theodore Ngo-
History in Robotics: Worked in a Lego Robotics class for a semester. Also did VEX Robotics for a semester before and a year of FRC.
Role: Engineer
Elijah Haines-
History in Robotics: This is my 3rd year in robotics, which gives me a lot of experience with robotics.
Role:Programmer/Engineer
Zack McDonough-
History in Robotics: This is my 2nd year in robotics.

Our Robot
Our robot is made up of a 4 motor drive train, with a 4-Bar mobile goal lift in the center. To score cones, we are using a Double Reverse 4-Bar with a normal claw attached to the end. Our strong suits involve our ability to score on the Stationary goals. We are able to stack 7 cones on the stationary goals and we are able to stack 8 on each mobile goal.
